Self-Help Resources
These are online resources I often use in counseling sessions and encourage my clients to practice outside of session:
Resource/Skill Related to Improving Relationships
Here is a link to a very helpful interpersonal effectiveness skill taken from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). DBT is a cognitive behavioral therapy developed by Marsha Linehan originally to treat people suffering from Borderline Personality Disorder. However, the DBT skills taught can help almost anyone and often are useful when you feel anxious, depressed, angry or are struggling in relationships. These interpersonal effectiveness skills, when mastered, can help reduce defensiveness and deescalate others. In general, these skills help you form healthier relationships.
Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness has many, many mental health benefits and is central to Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This is a link to a great mindfulness meditation video by Professor Mark Williams.
Thoughts/Feelings Resource to Help with Cognitive Restructuring
Differentiating between thoughts and feelings is a common problem for people learning cognitive restructuring to help with anxiety, depression, and other emotions. This link can help.
